25th Anniversary

2009 marks Pi Theatre's 25th Anniversary! We're thrilled to celebrate 25 years of bringing you dynamic, provocative and entertaining theatre experiences.

Pi Theatre began life as the Pink Ink Co-op in 1984, and led by Sandhano Schultze it quickly built a reputation for producing edgy, challenging scripts. Some highlights from the last quarter century include:

1992 Pi produces the first production of Polygraph, (with Théâtre la Seizième) to be mounted outside the auspices of Robert Lepage’s own company.

1997 Pi joins with several independent Vancouver theatre companies to found See Seven.

1998 Resident Lighting Designer Del Surjik is appointed Artistic Director.

2005 Elisa's Skin tours to the National Arts Centre for the Magnetic North Festival. That same year, Pi launched our emerging artists’ showcase, Prime Placements.

2007 Pi's launches its Accessibility Program, making it possible for over 1000 people to see our shows free of charge.

2008 Pi Theatre welcomed new Artistic Director Richard Wolfe.

Since the company’s inception, our peers have recognized Pi and its collaborators with 26 Jessie Richardson Awards, out of 80 nominations.
