Richard hits up Toronto!
Richard was in Toronto recently for the first week of the Factory Theatre run of Empire of the Son. Here's what he has to say about his trip.
Toronto was great. Vibrant city. Great art. Empire of the Son was very well received and our hosts at Factory were very supportive. VACT is thrilled with the tour as was Pi, and I’m sure our man Tetsuro was in fine form on closing night. GM Shayna was back in her hometown, so naturally I was hoping the visit didn’t cause her to miss it so much that she’d want to move back there. The photo above is a picture of Factory’s video display board in their lobby. Nice idea!
On top of the Empire experience, I saw four other shows and several music gigs. Below is a photo of the musicians getting ready for the dress tech night of Obsidian Theatre’s production of Passing Strange. Sending best wishes from Vancouver to Philip Akin and our friends at Obsidian.
“Toronto the Good” seemed to me, this time around, to be more like “Toronto the Bohemian”. The next photo is a night at the Cameron, one of the coolest spaces in the city as far as its cultural history goes. It’s a family run place that refused to crumble under the pressure being put on them by the city’s developers to sell the building’s property for condo development. Go Cameron House!
I’m looking forward to being back in the city this summer.
