Last weekend, we held our annual summer Hootenanny, and it was a blast! Volunteers, staff, donors, and our creative collaborators all piled into Richard's backyard for a BBQ. It didn't rain, the cats provided much entertainment, there was a rousing game of croquet, there was oodles of food, we polished off a keg of beer and several bottles of wine, and much fun was had by all. The best part was the opportunity to get to know one another a little better. Thanks so much to everyone for coming out and frolicking with us!

It's a good day here at Pi.  Last night was Vancouver's annual Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards, an opportunity to celebrate the work of our peers.  It was a great night and we're proud to be part of this generous, talented community. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and to the entire community for a fantastic season!

A special nod to our own Pepe Danza, who won Outstanding Sound Design or Original Composition, Small Theatre, for his work on The 8th Land!

And this week, we received an anonymous donation.  Such gifts are so welcome and appreciated, and do much to bolster our...

After a fantastic run in Vancouver, John & Beatrice closed on Saturday, and our cast and some of our crew took off for Saskatoon. The show opens there tonight, and plays to a sold-out run, through May 31.

The show will be playing in a nearly-finished building, rather than a theatre, in order to accommodate the site-specific needs of the piece. Our projection designer Tim Matheson went along to recreate the window effect, filming the view out of a brand new window, this time with a prairie view instead of the mountains. Check out some of the footage here:

Here at Pi we...

Jo Ledingham's review of John & Beatrice came out in today's Courier.

Ledingham had lots of praise for our original production of this show, so it's interesting to see her compare the two versions.

"John & Beatrice is back, but what a difference...Vincent Gale is still John, but Beatrice, previously played by Karen Rae, is now portrayed by Patricia Drake.  [Director Del] Surjik said he started afresh, the quality of these two fine actors being so dissimilar. A 21st-century fairytale is how it seemed in 2007; a year-and-a-half later, John & Beatrice is a darker, sadder tale. And...

John & Beatrice opened this week and this show is smoking hot! Patricia Drake brings a whole new take to the role of Beatrice, and Vincent Gale's John is as fiery as the first time around.

"It's a different play and, for some who have seen both, better this time around. For me, it's not better but definitely different; perhaps sadder near the end - and more optimistic right at the end." - Jo Ledingham, Vancouver Courier

"Beatrice distributes ads saying that she is a wealthy young heiress looking for a man who will 'interest, move and seduce her'. This show did all three to Vancouver...
