After every performance of The Events, Pi will be hosting a discussion. We have some amazing speakers coming in and want you to join us.
We're excited to welcome Wendy Roth, an Associate Professor of Sociology at UBC and the co-author of Rampage: The Social Roots of School Shootings, who will be joining us for the post-show talk on January 26th. Roth will lead a discussion on how we approach healing and forgiveness in our communities in the wake of mass shooting events.
Roth received her Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy at Harvard University. She is a sociologist of race, ethnicity, and immigration, with interests in Latin America, multiracial populations, and intersections of race and genomics. Her book, Race Migrations: Latinos and the Cultural Transformation of Race (Stanford University Press 2012) examines how immigration changes cultural concepts of race – for migrants, their host society, and the societies they left behind. She has received several awards for her research, including the 2007 American Sociological Association Outstanding Dissertation Award, the 2016 Canadian Sociological Association Early Career Scholar Award, and a 2017 UBC Killam Faculty Research Fellowship.
Whether you're seeing the show on the 26th or not, please come join us for a drink and join in on the discussion! Everyone is welcome!
