We were very happy to be able to work with an illustrator for after the quake - it's not often we get that opportunity. Edward Kwong was just the right fit - he's a huge Murakami fan and in fact his web portfolio had a Quake illustration up that he'd done just for fun.

Here is what he had to say about the project:

I usually jump at the chance to work on anything Murakami related and fortunately for me, Pi Theatre and Rumble Productions provided me with the opportunity. I've been a fan of Murakami's work for the past few years, ever since a friend recommended Kafka On The Shore to me. His...

Pi has really enjoyed the partnerships we established for After the Quake with Vancouver's National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre and the Bulletin, a journal of Japanese community, history, and culture. These organizations both work to share Japanese Canadian culture with Vancouver.   It's been great to connect to Vancouver's Japanese community through these groups. Check out the feature on After the Quake in the latest issue of the Bulletin!

As I had to perform an internship as part of my studies in Cultural Management, I decided to take this occasion to leave France for a few months and to see what’s going on on the other side of the globe. I arrived at the end of August in sunny Vancouver and started to work with the wonderful Pi people at the beginning of September.

Since then, I have the opportunity to be involved in the preparation of our next show, after the quake, including, among other things: being in contact with...

On Monday, October 26th, the cast of after the quake read the full script at the National Nikkei Museum and Heritage Centre. Here is what a member of the audience said after the reading:

It was great! Surprised just reading can visualize the image like that! I'm thinking of going to the play as well!

Designing a costume is a long process which requires a lot of research and thought. For After the Quake, Sheila White compiled mood boards for each of the main characters in the show. Have a look!
