Pi Theatre Casting Call: Hir by Taylor Mac
Taylor Mac is a critically acclaimed genderqueer playwright, and one of the boldest and most uncompromising creators working in theatre today. From A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, which included a 24-hour marathon performance at St. Anne’s Warehouse in NY last October, to many solo shows and concerts, Mac is widely acknowledged as a seminal artist in the alternative theatre scene.
Somewhere in the suburbs, Isaac has returned from the wars to help take care of his ailing father Arnold, only to find a household in revolt. The insurgent: his mom. Liberated from an oppressive marriage and with Max, her newly transgender son, as her ally, Paige is on a crusade to dismantle the patriarchy. But in Mac’s sly, subversive comedy, annihilating the past doesn’t always mean you escape from it.
Pi is looking to fill the following role:
Max Connors, (read as 17). Transgender child of Paige and Arnold. Sibling to Isaac. As per the playwright’s description, we are looking to cast an actor who was assigned female at birth and identifies as trans, non-binary or genderqueer.
Pi Theatre strives to reflect the diversity of our city in our work. We encourage submissions from performers of all ethnicities and racial backgrounds.
All actors will be compensated at Canadian Actors Equity rates. This position is open to union and non-union performers.
